Dear friends & family,

Hazy sunset off the Ecuadorian coast
Hazy sunset off the Ecuadorian coast

As of 5pm EST, we were at 0° 50' N, 80° 25' W, or about 100 miles from Manta (see map).  The GPS says we should arrive there sometime tomorrow morning, if nothing changes.  We're all fine, but there's no doubt that life is much nicer with the wind behind you.  We've been beating into 15 knots from the SW for the last 25 hours, and we're all tired of it.  So I've got the port engine ticking over at 2000 rpm to push us a little faster (listen to the purists scream).  The problem is that we're running into a about 1 knot current, and the slower we go, the more it affects us.  Better to be out of it ASAP.

Once we get to Manta, we'll meet up with OZ friends already there.  Vamp is watching Narissa while the Narissas (yes, we often refer to people by their boat's name, as we may not know surnames) are exploring the interior of Ecuador, then they'll watch our boats while we're away.  Sue has been reading Lonely Planet for ideas on where to go and what to do with the Vamps (who also have 2 teens).  We'll pick up email tomorrow evening (which will probably be an arrival party) but it might be a week after that, since I can only pick it up from the boat.

Cheers -- Jon, Sue, Chris & Amanda

s/v Ocelot, heading for the South Pacific!
