2003 Visitors
The beginning of 2003 saw us in the outer islands of Venezuela, cruising with a friendly Dutch catamaran. We got scuba certified in Bonaire, but then had to go to Curacao to have Sue's back looked at. In February (at the height of the strong winds) we had a very boisterous sail to Panama, which we eventually transited in March with Jan Reed, who we had cruised with back in the 80s on our trimaran, Oriental Lady. Once in the Pacific, we fell in with a bunch of Ozzies & Kiwis, most with kids. Everyone had a wonderful time as we cruised to Ecuador, the Galapagos, and then the long 3,000 mile jump to the Marquesas of French Polynesia. After some delightful times in the Tuamotus (where we were able to do a fair amount of scuba diving in the passes and the outer reef walls) we decided to take a brake from cruising and fly home for a couple of months, leaving poor Arthur to guard the boat.
